31 Min. Meditation Before the Gong

KIRTAN KRIYA;
Kirtan Kriya, often referred to as SA TA NA MA meditation, is the most important meditation in Kundalini Yoga. It was one of the first meditations taught by Yogi Bhajan and remains today as a foundation meditation recommended for every student. Yogi Bhajan said that if you can do only one meditation, this is it. It does everything for you in the order that you need. It is your teacher. And as you practice it, you will come to realize that it is your best friend. Whatever you need at the moment, it will readjust and align you to bring balance into your mind and thus your life.

Sa Ta Na Ma Meditation is becoming scientifically recognized as a powerful tool for preventing or stopping Alzheimer’s disease, increasing all aspects of cognitive function, (perception, thinking, reasoning and remembering) and reducing stress levels while improving short term memory.

There are three separate studies that have been published that prove the Sa Ta Na Ma Meditation benefits. Two of the studies were done at the University of Pennsylvania and one continuing studying is being done at UCLA University of California. The University of Pennsylvania study was published in 2010 in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (1). Their second study was published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine in 2010. The Canadian Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Foundation is recommending the meditation as a daily practice to slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s

The meditation is a combination of chanting a mantra while moving the hands through mudra’s. Mantra and mudra are also Sanskrit words. Mantra means “an often repeated word or phrase” and mudra means “a motion of the hands” or “a dance of the hands.” To fully experience the benefits of the meditation, a combination of singing, whispering and silently repeating the mantra are used. A key visualization of concentration is used to cap off the meditation.

Let’s start first with understanding the mantra Sa Ta Na Ma. The sounds comes from one of the oldest mantras Sat Nam which means “my true essence” or “true identity” and are designed to be uplifting. There are many interpretations for each of the sounds, one being that there is no meaning to the sounds at all, but simply a vibration, and a stimulation of 84 acupressure points in the palate of the mouth which occurs when singing and whispering the words.

SA is birth, the beginning, infinity, the totality of everything that ever was, is, or will be.
TA is life, existence, and creativity which manifests from infinity.
NA is death, change, and the transformation of consciousness.
MA is rebirth, regeneration, and resurrection which allows us to consciously experience the joy of the infinite.

When using the mantra in the meditation there are three “voices”. The singing voice, which represents the voice of action. The whispered voice, which represents the voice of the inner mind or the voice of your romantic nature. Finally the silence where you repeat the mantra mentally to yourself, representing your spiritual voice.

Community Kirtan and Veggie Potluck.

Kirtan is a gather with the intention to chant mantra.  “What is a mantra?  Mantra is two words: Man and tra. Man means mind. Tra means the heat of life. Ra means sun. So, mantra is a powerful combination of words which, if recited, takes the vibratory effect of each of your molecules into the Infinity of the Cosmos. That is called 'Mantra.'”  We can get caught in the repetitive thoughts, sounds and words of the mind.  Mantra,  changes the direction of focus of those words and thoughts.  These chants repeated changes the vibration of the mind and we can experience a more peaceful, calm mind.  Magnify that sound by being in community to amplify the intention of the chant.

On the second Sunday of the month Prana "Rockin" Kirtan Band host and evening of chants {manta}.  A warm and welcoming evening of music and community.  The evening begins with veggie potluck that the community participates in by bringing a dish to share.  Join us at 5:30 pm for food. Kirtan begins at 6:30pm.  Join us for food or kirtan or both.  Everyone is welcomed. Not experience neccessary.  Leave with the feelings of your own experience

 Double Gong Meditation

5:30- 6:30 pm

$12 donation

The universe is powered by sound.  The gong is the basic creative sound. Out of the gong comes all music, all sounds, all words.  The sound of the gong is the nucleus of the Word.  It takes three to ninety seconds for the sound of the gong to overtake the mind!  Wow, no wonder I'm out like a light within the first few strokes.   The gong is traditionally used in the Kundalini Yoga tradition as a healing tool. It is like a primitive form of ultrasound. The sound vibrations of the gong move through your body/mind clearing blocks, releasing tension and bringing harmony to your whole body.

When you join us for Gong Meditation you will make yourself  a comfortable spot on the floor.  Using a yoga mat, cushions, blankets and perhaps even an eye pillow to rest the body on during the next 45 minutes of relaxing, rhythmic gong vibrations.  Most likely you will enjoy one of the most deepest sleeps you have ever experienced.  When finished you will be deeply refreshed and relaxed that only you could describe through your personal experience.

It is Sound as Therapy!

As you listen to the Gong Sound, it will penetrate every cell and fiber of your body.  Emotions and thoughts are provoked from the subconscious. The entire nervous system is put under pressure to adjust and heal itself.
When that pressure builds, totally relax in the deepest meditation possible.  The sound will carry you beyond all fears.  The pressure will release the nervous system of many illnesses.
The parasympathetic nervous system is ruled by sound. To regenerate nothing is more powerful than the sound of Gong.

Come for the Relaxation, the Release, & the Renewal.

Today they are used in yoga and meditation classes, sound therapy practice, group gong bath meditations and in palliative and jcancer treatment centers to promote healths and well-being. They are also a wonderful addition at weddings, family celebrations, workshops and music festivals.
"The gong is more accurately a force of energy. like a divine engine, affecting the body's meridians. By and large, after it's over you just feel great." You feel like you've been healed by the spirit of nature. And the wonderful thing about it is that the instruments heal the player while the player is playing the instrument.

5:00 am - 7:30am

A morning practice of  kriya yoga, chant and meditation in the kundalini yoga tradition according to Yogi Bhajan.   Experience your inner essence during the amrit vela.  A time where soul meets the universe.  Yoga!

"What is sadhana? It’s a committed prayer. It is something which you want to do, have to do, and which is being done by you. … Sadhana is self-enrichment. It is not something which is done to please somebody or to gain something. Sadhana is a personal process in which you bring out your best."

~Yogi Bhajan

The Benefits of Aquarian Shadhana:

  • It balances the nervous system, supports a healthy spine, and improves digestion
  • It grounds body, mind, and soul with powerful affirmations
  • It helps us tap into our original light every day and meet life's challenges better
  • It fosters meaningful connections and sacred community
  • It encourages stillness and thereby promotes closeness to God
  • It clears karma

We gather at 5:00am for morning prayer of Japji, followed by an hour of Yoga (Kriya). A set of postures to prepare the body for meditation by listening and chanting the 7  Aquarian chants.
A 2 1/2 hour practice that represents tithing  10% of the day to source.
Join us for this early morning meditation during the amrit vela. When the world is quiet before dawn and our prayers can be heard

During what are called the “ambrosial hours” (the two and a half hours just before sunrise), when the sun is at a sixty-degree angle to the Earth, the energy you put into your sadhana gets maximum results. Your world is quieter. It’s easier to meditate and concentrate before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.

Develop a regular sadhana and you take control of your life. Develop a deep sadhana and you open the doors of experience. Commit to meet your higher Self each morning and your decisions and your life become original; your life will bear the signature of your soul; your radiance will express the meaningful intimacy of the Infinite in each moment. Immerse yourself in the joy of victory that comes from starting each day with a powerful sadhana and every challenge becomes opportunity.

Everyone is welcomed.  No experience required.
